Giant metal temporary pavillion in front of City Hall to host pops concert.
Upon further gumshoeing, Quincy Quarry has discerned that the huge metal temporary pavilion that has been erected in front of City Hall will be used to host a pops concert on Saturday, September 19.
So what, apparently, for using the theatrical use grade auditorium at Quincy High School, holding the event at Memorial Stadium, or canceling the concert out of an abundance of caution given the latest COVID-19 spike so as to save the estimated $100,000 cost to rent the pavilion.
That and given how Quincy Center continues to suffer from a lack of readily accessible parking as well as handicapped-accessible parking.
And then there is the lack of readily accessible public restroom facilities and thus the Koch Administration will have to go to the additional expense of bringing in portapotties.
In any event, Quincy Quarry is still endeavoring to find out if the outsized pavilion is also planned to be used for the September 11 dedication of the somewhat nearby Generals Bridge and upwards of roughly a million in adjacent new statues and busts.
Further, given that the tent and its temporary flooring will be in place over most of the large turf area adjacent to both City Hall and Kim Jong Koch Plaza for over two weeks, one can only assume that local taxpayers will yet again be sodded to pay for yet another resodding of this turf after it suffers two weeks of a cover-up, including most likely a needed re-resodding of the recent and arguably obsessive resodding of a modest portion of the turf given a landscaping design error.
And yes, Quincy Quarry’s ever-growing legions of loyal readers can count on the Quarry to report on it if yet another sodding of local taxpayers occurs with the turf at City Hall.
So taxpayers have to pick up the tab but no invite. Scandalous.
Of course.
And I wonder, will masks be required, will there be responsible distancing?
Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be any vaccine that will help the taxpayers avoid the ill-wind and profligate spending emanating from the corner orifice at city hall.
Wally,
Please be advised that at the end Saturday’s dedication ceremonies, Mayor Koch announced that the Friday night gala and Saturday dedication event was paid for by private event sponsors.
In turn, figure around a quarter of a million in total or more per “normal” pricing and which we both know that the events sponsors will see back and then some in the way of future solids provided to them by the Koch Machine.
A second tent has magically appeared in front of the Koch Ministry of Bullshit — right next to the first tent. Probably designated as the site for drunkenness, sloth and gluttony. Oh, and frivolous waste of tax dollars.
It must be nice being a Kochster. It’s all Dom Pérignon, shrimp cocktails, and wagyu steaks. Due to Quincy’s nepotism problem, I imagine it is like a big family gathering. All driving city paid for vehicles. Seconds and take home, I’m sure. Meanwhile, many people are living on the streets and in the bushes all around Quincy center. King Koch needs to stop WASTING our money!
