– News about Quincy from Quincy Quarry News.
Quincy Center hit with two big whacks early this morning.
The calm of dawn after yesterday’s hurricane warning was loudly disrupted not once but twice early this morning in Quincy Center.
Per the always quick to respond work of a regular Quincy Quarry News Citizen Photojournalist, the Quarry is able to report that two separate single-car vehicular accidents occurred within but a few blocks of each other in Quincy Center early this morning along the Hancock Street/Washington Street corridor between the backside of the United First Parish Church, better known as the Church of Presidents Church, to just past McGrath Highway.
The first accident entailed the driver of the motor vehicle involved in this accident striking a telephone pole at the dangerous to the point of fatal intersection of Elm and Washington streets. This accident occurred at roughly 4:20 AM and thus shortly before dawn and probably not the result of driving under the influence as closing time in Quincy is 1 AM, not that many licensed premises stay open that late anymore.
Accordingly, one can only reasonably assume that this accident may have been the result of some combination of darkness, a slight bend in the road, and perhaps a bit of driver fatigue even if there was both a bicycle lane as well as a lane of curbside parking margin of error.
That or perhaps even claims of swerving to miss a coyote crossing the road while chasing a chicken.
In any event, the first responder response was rapid. Quincy police dispatch personnel saw to it that a police response quickly arrived on the scene. The response subsequently further included an ambulance as well as both the Quincy Fire Department rescue vehicle as well as one of its fire trucks.
As it turned out, the ambulance and some of the fire department response proved to be unnecessary as police gave the driver a ride to his residence in Quincy Point and so reinforcing the Quarry’s surmise that driving under the influence was probably not the cause of this accident.
Then less than two hours later as well as shortly after daybreak, the driver of an expensive German SUV took out both a tree as well as at least the front end of his ride near the Coddington Way secondary entranceway into Presidents Place as well as opposite the backside of the Church of the Presidents Church but a handful of minutes after 6 AM.
In this case, the Quarry is not yet able to offer up a possible cause of this accident as the daylight had broken and the run of the road where this accident occurred is perfectly straight.
Further curious is how this driver also had a safety margin of both a bicycle lane as well as a run of not then in use curbside parking to provide room to meander.
In the meanwhile, as well as until Quincy Quarry might be able to dispatch its accident reconstruction team to the scene of this accident, the working suspicion is that perhaps this accident is the result of a distracted driver.
After all, not everyone abides by the ban on using a handheld smartphone while behind the wheel while driving, including even if a City of Quincy worker driving about in a city vehicle was photographed by an alert Quincy Quarry photojournalist.
In any event, similar tree-killing and traffic signals destroying single-vehicle accidents are not uncommon at the intersection of Coddington Way, Hancock Street, Temple Street, and Washington Street.
That and also not uncommon has been coverage of same by Quincy Quarry News.
That and further exposing both how fixing the damage so wrought has been slow to be made, if at all or all that well, to date.
As such, Quincy Quarry’s ever-growing legions of loyal readers can all but assuredly publish updates about the progress on repairs needed after these accidents as might be appropriate.
And in the meanwhile, count on Quincy Quarry to duly further check up on the scenes of these two early morning accidents so close to each other in both time and places and then report back as might be appropriate.
Judging from the photo, it looks as if the driver may have miscalculated a U-turn. An ILLEGAL U-turn, by the way. Sometimes it seems that Quincy Center is the illegal U-turn capital of Massachusetts.
That could have something to do with the fact that the traffic configuration in QC is — to be kind — absurd. F-ing ridiculous.
If I recall correctly, at some point someone from the Koch regime stated — in answer to a question about traffic snarls in QC — that traffic wasn’t a factor in reconfiguring the street layout in the Center. That, of course, was obvious from the get-go.
