Police in Quincy, Massachusetts, are seeking information after two people were robbed — including one victim who was seriously injured — near the North Quincy train station last week. The victims in both incidents are of Asian descent, however, police in Quincy say they don’t believe the incidents are hate crimes. A Quincy Police Department image.

Two recent robberies of Elderly Asians in North Quincy spark fear and concern in the local Asian-American community.
While admittedly two muggings of elderly Asians in North Quincy could be argued as not exactly a given sign of racially-based hate crimes, it is not unreasonable to suggest that at least racial targetting of victims may be occurring.
After all, such targetting has occurred as far back as over more than a decade, if not even longer.

UPDATE: CBS Reports: Assaults on Asian Americans spike nationwide amid coronavirus pandemic.
Perhaps at least as disconcerting was the official response promulgated by the Koch Maladministration in response to questioning about these recent muggings:
“Any crime where there is any indication of racial motivation is thoroughly investigated as a hate crime by the Quincy Police Department and would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
Apparently, Mayor Koch and his brother-in-law Quincy Police Paul “The Beav” Keenan are not on the same page.
Also troubling is how only in recent weeks has Mayor Koch appointed the first Asian American who was also the first person of color to a senior position in his otherwise Caucasian, tone-deaf, and mostly good old boy overladen administration.
Similarly lily-white is the makeup of all City of Quincy employees even if Quincy has long been a racially diverse community as well as it expected to be found to have a minority-majority population when the still ongoing decennial census is eventually completed.
Additionally note that Quincy is as well as has long been a so-called “Gateway City” wherein those striving to achieve the American Dream set up residence to do so.
At the same time, however, there are still some among longtime Quincy residents who view the marriage of an Irish Roman Catholic to an Italian Roman Catholic as a mixed marriage.
