Quincy, North Quincy boys hockey teams still on COVID-19 a suspension for misbehaving at a hockey but do not have to quarantine.

And then there is the backstory …

Last Tuesday Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch inexplicably talked up in one of his COVID-19 update happy yak YouTubes that the North Quincy and Quincy high hockey teams would be facing off at center ice on the then following Saturday night.

That and how the players’ parents would be allowed to attend despite a recent ratching downward of the number of people allowed to gather indoors ordered by Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker given recent skyrocketing COVID-19 infection rates.

Additionally, it must be noted that as mayor, Mayor Koch is also the Chair of the School Committee and thus empowered to tell the local school superintendent what to do as regards all manner of matters, including holding – or not holding – school sports events unless higher authorities intervene.

in turn, and as one could have only reasonably expected, players then violated COVID-19 risk mitigation rules during the game and then the Quincy Public Schools Superintendent suspended the teams.

Did the game ref knuckle under to angry hockey parents?

Subsequently, however, after suspending the teams, the superintendent then rolled back some of his disciplinary actions so imposed shortly after the game and most likely at least partially in the face of heat from heated hockey parents.

Granted, there is no confirmation that the game might be a super spreader event, however, it is only fair to note that it is too soon for any possible infections to have manifested into illness.
