Quincy Quarry Weekly Fish Wrap: It was only a matter of time …

In the wake of the still somewhat still ongoing national and statewide elections, the latest campaign funding scandal to hit the fan locally this week was ultimately only to be at least generally only to be expected by Quincy Quarry’s ever growing legions of loyal readers.

Specifically, Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch has yet again been whacked by the Massachusetts Office of Campaign and Political Finance over yet again accepting a number of illegal straw campaign “contributions” to his campaign fund.

That and so reinforcing Quincy Quarry’s read of the Office of Campaign and Political Finance’s online listing of sanction letters and such that Quincy Mayor Koch would clearly appear to be by far the most often named recipient of sanctioned illegal straw contributions.

Additionally, in what would appear to probably be a case of “bundling”campaign donations, Massachusetts Governor Charlies Baker yet again and perhaps also even unknowingly looks to have again been dragged into this latest straw campaign “donation” scandal with a Quincy nexus on top of an earlier “quirking.”

The head cheerleader for the projects?

Also only to expected, the source of the illegal “donations” surely but coincidentally were from a now locally-based real estate development company that has surely also but coincidentally received all manner of generous to eye-opening variances on local building and zones codes as well as promote consideration so that its projects could move along with alacrity.

How considerable were the sanctions imposed?

The $250,000 fine imposed upon the developer and the additional $50,750 in disgorgements of the “contributions” received by various candidates rank as the second highest total of financial sanctions ever imposed by the Massachusetts Office of Campaign and Political Finance.

Business as usual in the Q …

In turn, the impending $15,500 disgorgement by the Koch Committee campaign fund looks to have perhaps dinged Mayor Koch’s typical twice weekly gorgings at mostly local eateries to discuss “campaign” matters.

So what, apparently, for the fact that his current term as mayor runs through 2023 as well as that there is all but assuredly no chance that he could successfully run for higher office beforehand as well as that probably even he knows it.

Then again, it must be noted that campaign funds can be used by Massachusetts public office holders to at least help pay for office-related legal defense expenses.

Fortunately, South Park is in Colorado

After all, Quincy Quarry is aware of other potentially wicked ugly problematic matters involving the Koch Machine which could well be hitting the fan soon enough.

Granted, perhaps some Kochsters who could end up thrown under a bus; however, sooner or later one runs out of patsies to sacrifice, not to mention the fact that the first deal cut with prosecutors is all but invariably the best deal.

Needless to say, count on Quincy Quarry to feature coverage if but more likely when things hit the fan.
