– Quincy News from Quincy Quarry News.
Quincy has an ED problem, but not “that” ED problem.
Rather, earlier this month the full service emergency care Emergency Department at the former site of Quincy Medical Center closed without any fanfare, thus leaving locals in dire medical straits to have to head out of the Q for emergency care.
Fortunately, traffic is down given that the COVID-19 pandemic has put many out of work and forced others working at home, however, one would hope that the economy will eventually pick up even if that will only make things even more dicey for locals in need of emergency medical care.
Further problematic, signs offering directions to the now former Emergency Department on now misnomered Hospital Hill are still in place around Quincy and thus giving rise to the potential to needlessly waste time for those with little time to spare.
That and so what for enforcing Quincy’s signage ordinances.
But not to worry, Quincy has seen an uptick in Urgent Care facilities.
Just ask Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch.
So what, however, for the fact that many to most Urgent Care units are at best staffed with a Nurse Practitioner in charge as well as that these facilities are not equipped to deal with medical emergencies much more serious than administering an EpiPen pen to someone in the midst of a dire allergic reaction.
Rather, think more at best able to administer a tenuous shot, properly clean and dress a wound, or quickly provide vaccinations so that one can enroll children in school, duly prepare for taking a trip out of the country, and similar such relatively modest medical needs.
