Alleged homicidal driver unmasked. A Quincy Police Department mugshot.
Quincy man accused of killing a seventy-two-year-old pedestrian in a wheelchair.
The dangerous and mean streets of Quincy are only becoming meaner.
Way meaner.
In the third senior pedestrian fatality in Quincy in less than two months, this time a senior in a wheelchair was struck and killed Friday night on Quincy Avenue near its intersection with Southern Artery.
The first senior fatality occurred on June 10 several blocks away on Quincy Avenue near Gennaro’s Restaurant and the second senior fatality occurred on June 26 near the 1000 Southern Artery senior housing complex.
So far, however, no comment from Quincy’s City Hall on the recent spate of senior citizen pedestrian fatalities.
Equally disconcerting, a witness told police that the alleged seventy-eight-year-old perp in the latest pedestrian killing backed over the victim after striking him, got out of his car to check things, got back in his car, and then attempted to drive away from the scene.
Fortunately, an eyewitness blocked him from fleeing the scene until police arrived.
Police report that the driver failed a roadside sobriety check as well as added that the driver has four prior convictions for drunk driving.
The driver was arraigned this morning in Quincy District Court on both drunk driving and vehicular homicide charges.
Unclear at this point, however, is if he had a valid driver’s license at the time of his latest arrest.
While a not guilty plea was entered at today’s hearing, one report indicates that the alleged vehicular killer will be held in custody until at least Friday when he is due back in court for a dangerousness hearing.
Update: Bail Denied at Dangerousness Hearing
