Quincy’s announced COVID death count more than doubles in a day.
After almost two weeks of few COVID deaths reported by City of Quincy officials in the wake of a fast start up the curve, fifteen COVID deaths were acknowledged on Thursday, a figure five times more than announced per a daily update than the previous most daily deaths update.
Further troubling, as of Wednesday the total announced local COVID fatalities was fifteen but was noted as thirty-one on Thursday, an increase of sixteen rather than the fifteen announced.
Apparently one death was not added into a daily report.
Unclear, however, is if these considerable swings were reasonable accurate in their reporting as to the dates of deceasing or if the official tabulating was less than scrupulous.
Regardless of the reason for the arithmetic anomaly, Thursday’s death toll update not only doubled Quincy’s fatality rate per thousand, the current rate is also now roughly twice the statewide average after a brief stint of running a bit under the state average after a much longer stint running several to many times more than the state average.
In any event, Quincy Quarry has been advised of yet another death to add to the total. This informally advised deceased party was a resident of the Quincy Housing Authority’s O’Brien Towers in Germantown and which is further said to now have nineteen testing confirmed cases of COVID-19 among its residents, not that the housing authority has been exactly forthcoming with this information.
How soon this latest death will be added into City Hall’s official count remains to seen, however.
