Former Quincy Hospital site redevelopment into huge housing project approved.
As was only to be expected in spite of considerable and sound arguments against approving the plan as presented, the Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch-appointee rich Quincy Planning Board approved the plan of yet another connected real estate speculator to redevelop the former Quincy Medical Center property into one of largest multiple unit residential projects in the city’s history.
About the only thing unexpected was just how transparent was this particular as well as latest bag job, especially how quickly the application was decided all but without any of the expected due deliberation following warranted critical public comment of the application.
While the local and prolific gadfly has already posted his usual comprehensive, erudite and insightful recap of events to the South Shore broadsheet’s coverage, Quincy Quarry would like to add that one should expect that aggrieved abuttors will be filing an appeal against the Planning Board’s approval.
That and how it would appear that the game plan looks to be a good one to see a de facto instant replay overturning of the approval and then a replay ordered.
As always, Quincy Quarry readers count on it to provide updates if and as they hit the fan.

According to the PL:
“Quincy Mayor Thomas Koch said in a statement Thursday. “A first-class, moderately sized housing development of this kind is precisely the kind of reuse of this derelict, blighted property that will enhance and protect the surrounding neighborhood in a way exponentially better than any other possible reuse.”
Well, no, not “precisely” and no, not “exponentially better than any other potential use.” Really? Better than say, oh, let me think . . . a hospital? Or some sort of medical facility?
It’s more than obvious this was a done deal and as so many others are in the Q.
In short, a bag-job extraordinaire!
Koch packs the board with pro developer members to ram this down our throats. Then he calls an oversized monstrosity in the middle of a family neighborhood ‘‘moderately sized’ and thinks we’re buying it? He’s been over developing the city for years with no one stopping him, so why wouldn’t he pack an unelected board with members who’ll just allow for even bigger and more dense units in a totally inappropriate area of the city?
All is well. New residents of the mega development get a free T pass for a month. Gotta love that one. Don’t know who walked away with that bone. They might not want to brag about it.
But the current residents of the area will get no free anything — certainly no free T passes. However, more city services will be required, taxes will go up even further, there will be more traffic. And the city still has no reputable, competent, medical facility.
Even a city nestled on the ocean can’t escape the miasma seeping from this development. Yet another invidious project by Koch.
