Disabled veterans come to Quincy to enjoy a day on the water.
Earlier this week the Harvey’s Salt Water Fishing Club hosted an estimated 140 veterans for a day of fishing..
This annual tradition began in 1956 when a group of Houghs Neck neighbors got the idea to treat their local disabled WWI and WWII veterans to a day of fishing.
Only about a dozen or so veterans went out on a fishing trip that year; however, over the years the number of guests has grown by over tenfold.
Today our officers are volunteering at the 63rd Annual Disabled Veterans Fishing Trip. Such an amazing day! ☀️??

This year’s event was made possible by the efforts of well over a hundred volunteers, assistance from the Quincy Police Department Marine Unit and featured a late lunch at the Quincy Yacht Club after the vets return from cruising the harbor for a couple of hours in the hope of landing a flounder or two.
