A nanny state? Vermont town elects goat as its mayor.
A 3-year-old Nubian nanny goat named Lincoln is the first honorary pet mayor of the small Vermont town of Fair Haven.
Lincoln prevailed over fifteen other pets. Most of the other candidates were dogs and cats, although one was a gerbil named Crystal.
Lincoln received thirteen votes and so prevailed over a dog named Sammie that received ten votes. The other candidates combined for thirty votes.
During Lincoln’s tenure as mayor, the nanny goat is expected to attend local events, including marching in the Memorial Day parade wearing a custom-made mayoral sash.
