Comic book icon Stan Lee died from pneumonia yesterday in Los Angeles.
He was 95.
Mr. Lee may not have invented comic books, but he took this graphic pulp fiction genre to new heights as well as helped fuel an international movie franchise the likes of which Hollywood has never before seen.
Key to his success were that his super heroes had human frailties and his story lines addressed contemporary as well as relatable issues.
Mr. Lee also had a second career as an actor as he regularly appeared in featured cameo roles in Marvel movies and which his hundreds of millions of loyal fans greatly enjoyed.
