Squirrels blamed for spate of North Shore power outages.
Squirrels are nuisance everywhere most everywhere.
Usually that it is a problem just for the squirrels such as being hit by cars.
But these critters can also hit close to home by knocking out the supply of electric power.
In response, utility companies are undertaking proactive steps such as installing squirrel guards on electrical transformers.
One utility company added that there has been a spike of animal-related outages this year from what they have averaged druing the last five years.
In turn, such baits the question: why are there so many squirrels turning out the lights as well as a whole lot more this year?
An expert at the State Division of Wildlife told WBZ TV that there was plenty of food from them over the winter earlier this year and thus squirrels emerged in the spring healthy and ready to breed.
