Self-driving cars headed toward an Artificial Intelligence roadblock?

If you believe the CEOs, a fully autonomous car could be only months away.

Skeptics, however, say a full rollout of full autonomy could be farther away than the industry admits as there is growing concern among AI experts that it may be years, if not decades, before self-driving systems can reliably avoid accidents.

Further note that the overview critique on the problems facing self-driving cars linked below itself failed to address what is perhaps the most daunting problem of all: even if the necessary and all but infinitely complex software algorithms can be successfully developed, the cost of the computing power needed in a car to run the software is expensive,

In turn, even if one accepts Moore’s Law as still generally valid, along with its inherent implied projection of ever-declining costs of computers’ integrated circuitry component costs, the cost of the computing power necessary for a motor vehicle to operate autonomously is likely to be years – if not decades – away from becoming economically viable.
