F Troop gets an F for transparency.
The Boston broadsheet reports that payroll records for the Massachusetts State Police’s Troop F – which patrols primarily Logan Airport and parts of the Seaport District in Boston – have not been submitted since 2010 for inclusion into the state’s annual employee payroll reports and which are made available to the public.
At least seventy-nine percent of Troop F made more last year than Governor Charlie Baker, who earned $151,800.
The actual percentage could be even higher given that all relevant payroll records are said to not at this point be fully consolidated into a single unified report by employee.
Apparently, no one working for the state government knows how to run a W-2 payroll report.
A key reason for the heretofore undisclosed pay records is that Troop F payroll and various other operational costs are funded by Massport, the independent state agency that runs several area airports and the Boston Harbor port operations.
Massport spokeswoman Jennifer Mehigan said that Massport did not file records with the state comptroller’s office previously because Massport officials view work done by Troop F employees to be akin to services provided by a vendor.
This is not the first time that Massport has been caught for exposing things that were later exposéd by local media.
In particular, how both a bunch of boobs as well as a couple of boobs in particular were exposéd on a Massport-funded Boston Harbor booze cruise and then further exposéd in Boston’s tabloid.
With the other six Massachusetts State Police troops now facing reviews of their operations, one can only wonder how many more boobs will be exposéd.
Mary Z. Connaughton, director of government transparency at the Pioneer Institute, a nonprofit think tank that supports limited government, said the latest overtime disclosures warrant close examination.
Said Connaughton: “You don’t need to be Nostradamus to predict that the overtime corruption at the Massachusetts State Police is not isolated to a single troop. The lack of transparency leads the public to cast further doubt on the agency.”
Needless to say, count on Quincy Quarry to continue to watch for more boobs to be exposéd in the metastasizing mess that is the Massachusetts State Police.

If only Massachusetts had an auditor.
The Globe is reporting all of the MSP’s salaries. This might be a good place to report Suzanne Bump’s salary. You know, the auditor who doesn’t know know that her primary residence is also her principal residence.
