Larry McCormack/The Tennessean imageNashville Mayor Megan Barry announced her resignation today after pleading guilty to misusing public funds to take her police sergeant former lover on supposedly but official trips as well as paying him for overtime while he “worked” her security detail.
Now former Mayor Megan Barry, a Democrat, would appear to be the first relatively significant elected female official in the country to resign from office as a convicted felon given the misuse of public funds in a double dipping sex scandal.

No word yet, however, as to what Ms. Barry’s spouse might also be filing for divorce.

For some funny reason, I cannot help but assume that the travel time mattress time for the now-former mayor’s boy toy was probably paid on some sort of premium rate basis per the local police union contract.
For example, possibly paid on a 24 hour “hardship” basis for each day a police officer is on the road. Alternatively, imagine the savings on not needing to rent rooms as the City of Nashville was paying for them.
Net/net, it is all but invariably the taxpayers who are getting screwed – and not the fun way.
National news was describing the Mayor as a ‘rising star’ in the Democrat party. It wasn’t stars she was rising. Love how far the bar has been lowered for elected officials. She may have been forced to resign but this didn’t happen without her staff and most of the police force assigned to her knowing all about it.
