Quincy double brined as storms approach.
While and about looking for news on the ever-increasingly mean and soon to perhaps be ice storm frozen streets of Quincy, Quincy Quarry News personnel found many local streets well-salted.
In fact, many streets were found to be twice brined.
On Monday in the face of a possible storm which ended up not happening, many Quincy streets were pre-treated with brine.
Then on Thursday Department of Public Works personnel were again out and about brining local streets in advance of a forecast of light snow during primarily the Friday morning commute and then followed by potentially freezing rain in spite of the fact that many streets were still covered with their brining on Monday.
Clearly, City of Quincy officials were opting to go safe rather deluged with angry constituent complaint calls even as the storm threat was at most expected to be but a possible dusting or so but which then never transpired.
Even more discerning, however, is the expected third forecast and stronger storm over Saturday night into Sunday morning.
Unclear, however, is just how much snow and/or freezing rain will accumulate.
After years of steady increases in weather forecasting accuracy, Quincy Quarry now suspects that the record-setting federal government shutdown has negatively impacted the quality of the National Weather Service’s forecasting efforts.
Needless to say, the next sixty or so hours could lend credence to this suspicion.
