Quincy City Hall Early Voting parking Q-up extraordinaire.

On the very first day ever that Massachusetts has offered walk-in Early Voting, Quincy’s City Hall committed easily its dumbest Q-up ever covered by Quincy Quarry News in all of the Quarry’s years of covering news in the Q.

The Q-up: City Hall commandeered for the exclusive use by Early Voters and poll workers all of the roughly 45 free parking spaces in front of the Quincy Center MBTA station that are reserved for less senior and ever increasingly hack hire City Hall workers.

Also commandeered where the adjacent but half a dozen parking spaces designated for use by the general public who need to conduct (other, ed.) business inside of City Hall.

So what, apparently, for the fact that parking needs for Early voters clearly appear to minimal – at best.

Even more troubling, however, not a single one of the designated early voter parking spaces was set aside for handicapped early voters.

After all, it is only reasonable to assume that a number of prospective Early Voters are disabled or are at least less than able and thus wish to avoid dealing with voting at the polls on the regular Election Day on Tuesday November 8.

Then again, City Hall has for months not provided handicapped parking for the handicapped who wish to do business at City Hall or otherwise wish to visit City Hall.

In point of fact, City Hall has actually as well as repeatedly eliminated handicapped street parking spaces near City Hall.

Further troubling, none of the numerous City Hall VIP parking spaces have been commandeered to make parking available to Early Voters, much less to the handicapped.

Conversely, on top of surely hacking off at least a couple of dozen City Hall hacks who will have to park somewhere else in increasingly parking scarce Quincy Center until after the election, drivers wishing to pick up someone at the MBTA station at the end of the workday or perhaps do something in the area after hours were precluded from parking as they have done previously.

Confusion was so severe that even an MBTA police officer on the scene had been advised in advance of the changeover to reserved Early Voter only parking.

At the same time, apparently neither did  voters as this same officer also noted that he was only aware of a few Early Voters passing through as of 4 PM Monday.

Quincy Quarry considered reaching out to City Hall for comment, but City Hall closes for business at 4:30 PM.
