Quincy political newcomer Alexander Mendez announces plans to run for State Senate.
The local mayoral and council race elections are barely six weeks past and already there is word from a political newcomer who plans to run for the local state senate seat currently as well surely coincidentally held by Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch’s brother-in-law John F. Keenan between now and next November’s election.
Per standard press release material sent to Quincy Quarry, challenger Alex Mendez, a longtime resident of Quincy as well as a neighborhood neighbor of the current incumbent state senator, is running as an independent as he feels that he has been ” . . . let down by Republicans and Democrats for their lack of vision (as well as has) unimpressed by MA State politics.”

While Quincy Quarry as well as probably at least many among its growing legions of readers will find great merit in these views, the Quarry is not yet ready to consider offering an endorsement of Mr. Mendez’s candidacy this early in the going.
In the meanwhile, it still must be noted that Mr. Mendez claims to be a college graduate who worked his way through not only his undergraduate degree, but also two masters degrees as well as similarly just finished law school this past spring at Suffolk University, the same law school where the incumbent state senator also graduated law school.
As such, Mr. Mendez would appear to probably be the most degreed person either running for office or in office in any state or local office that represents Quincy residents.
For example, while the incumbent Mendez is challenging facing earned his undergraduate degree at Harvard College, Quincy Quarry gives the challenger the win on education round given his two masters degrees whereas the incumbent has none as well as that both graduated from the same law school.
Whether – or not– this election race entails an erudite discussion of the issues – and thus the opposite of the local usual – remains to be seen, however.

Regardless, expect Quincy Quarry to follow this particular race closely as it does unfortunately does not expect much in the way of significant challenges of at least certain of the current local members of the General Court.
Fortunately for Quarry readers, it would appear that the 2016 Presidential race is looking to be the most entertaining political reality show ever given that national office political campaigns appear to have finally dropped any pretense of their duly addressing truly significant matters of substance and importance to the future of both our republic as well as the world at large.
