– News about Quincy from Quincy Quarry News.

An overnight ice storm leaves Quincy slip sliding away.

As promised, Quincy Quarry was out early this morning to assess how slippery were the ever-increasingly mean streets of Quincy after last night’s freezing rain.

Fortunately for the personnel assigned to report on things, Santa gave them ice skates for Christmas last year.

Well-salted

While many local main streets had been as well-brined as a pickle, treating of roads was not always from curb to curb.

As one consequence, MBTA buses were on some main local streets sliding sideways or otherwise to the curb given black ice at local bus stop spaces.

Similarly treacherous were some of the sidewalks in and around Quincy’s City Hall.

Sidewalks to and from the Quincy Center MBTA station were in walk like a penguin icy.

In fact, such was even the case if one instead opted to walk on landscaping mulch.

Only slippery inside?

Conversely, and as one could only expect, City Hall sidewalks were less slippery than is usually the case inside of City Hall when it’s open for business.

Fortunately, the forecast is for warmer temperature and intermittent rain later in the day.

In the meanwhile, one would be well-advised to stay inside until the black ice melts away around eleven this morning.

Fortunately, last minute male shoppers usually don’t head out to shop before noon even on Christmas Eve.

A Kodak moment

And for those hoping for a White Christmas, Old Man Winter is looking to be accommodating these holiday wishes.

The current forecast for Christmas Day is for upwards of a couple of inches of snow by first thing in the morning.

In other words, just enough for a Kodak moment.

That and a lot of mud on the floor as children come back inside after trying out their new sleds as well as most likely doing so just as company arrives.

Plowing or getting plowed?

As such, plan on trouble likely when driving to Grandmother’s house as who knows how willing the city’s snow plow drivers will be go out and plow snow late on Christmas Eve as opposed to staying home and getting plowed.

After all, we are talking the Q.

That and count on Quincy Quarry to cover the anticipated Christmas Day 2017 snow job as only it has the snow balls to throw.
