“Hoffies”
A Hofbrau Facebook photo

The nickname given by the locals for the Hofbrau Sports Bar – Quincy’s  own Dive Bar Deluxe – is “Hoffies.”

While listed as a dive by several online sites, the Hofbrau still couldn’t be a dive bar without the annoying aroma of stale beer and ashtray stench from years gone by – and “Hoffies” has both and more!

Other dive features include loud & large flat screen TV’s featuring nothing but sports.  Also to be expected are patrons who appear to be fixtures super-glued to their bar stools as well as never leave – even if Norm went home to Vera once in a great while.

The patrons surrounding the pool table are also all but cemented in place other than when they shuffle some dust before making their next pool shot after doing a shot.

There is a feeling of being in a time warp – the channel, the locals and the menu never change!

A cheap bar pizza runs around $5 – you get what you pay for, perhaps Mickey D’s would offer more value!

Lobster tacos and outdoor grilled barbecued ribs are featured during the warm time of the year whereas said to be made with fresh breast meat chicken fingers along with hand-sliced fries, mac & cheese, meatloaf, and the occasional special are offered year-round.

Bar food with dabblings in comfort grub!

Quantity portions – sometimes good and sometimes not so good depending on who is doing the cooking: pseudo Chef Stouffer or a real cook.  Your guess is as good as mine as to when longtime semi-resident Chef Phat might be working at Hoffies or perhaps off working somewhere else.

The range of Hoffies dining patrons are said to range from a local politician recently seen working a mouth-filling bone to an appreciative local police officer as well as all sorts of other local color, at least so long as the color is White.

Also, drinking lots and often seems to be the name of the game here – and after several of their large cheap cocktails and the usual local Bud Light brewskies, you will be calling this place hotties!

Sports action indeed!  At the Hoffbrau Sports Bar, the sporting includes scoring a little bedroom gymnastics – even the pool table is said to have seen a little bit of action after closing time.

There is also the more than occasional extra curricular activity going on in the motor vehicles in the Hoffies’ parking lot after sunset provide some cover of darkness.

Hoffies is thus recommended if you live within walking distance and just want to get smashed, are low on funds, and/or hope to get lucky.

Also recommended: packing Tums and “candy cane wrappers!

Expect to get what you pay for at Hoffies – and sometimes even getting lucky with a local!
