The National Hot Dog and Sausage Council created National Hot Dog Day.

Additionally, this industry lobbying group sees to it that National Hot Dog Day is set to coincide with its hosting of a hot dog lunch on Capitol Hill every year on a Wednesday in July.

In any event, this year’s hot dogging it will feature an homage to Apollo 11 astronauts Neil A. Armstrong and Edwin E. “Buzz” Aldrin Jr. on the fiftieth anniversary of their landing on the moon as hot dogs were among the first foods eaten by them during their historic mission to the moon.
