The New England Patriots take another bit hit: Gronk retires.

During the course of a weekend with block busting news out of Washington DC and a muffed public relations announcement by New England Patriots’ owner, Bon vivant, tight end extraordinaire and all-around good guy Rob Gronkowski announced via social media that he is hanging up his cleats.

While Gronk’s retirement announcement to his legions of fans was short and sweet, there is no doubt in anyone’s mind that nine years of his fearless style of play playing in the National Football League has taken a toll on Gronk’s body.

Even so, Gronk’s agent Drew Rosenhaus opined that Gronk could always change his mind, only to quickly add that he was not speaking for Gronk and thus he was strictly speculating.

At the same time, when pressed for further comment, Rosenhaus quickly added that at least over the near term Gronk’s plans entail, “(n)othing.  A lot of fun.  A lot of rest.  Good times.  Relaxation.  Partying.  Being himself.  Being Gronk.  Eventually we could see him doing TV, acting, a whole number of things.  Appearances.  Endorsements.  He’s one of the biggest personalities.  He won’t disappear.  He’s going to have fun for a while, but he’ll be back in the limelight in the near future…”
