Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro digs in for another six-year term.

In perfect example of how things can always be worse, tomorrow Nicolás Maduro, the president of Venezuela, will be sworn in for a second six-year term in office.

Mr. Maduro has a claim to be the worst president of any country not at war.

During him time in office to date, Venezuela’s GDP has dropped by nearly half, violence has soared and health care has all but collapsed.

Additionally, about 3 million people – a tenth of Venezuela’s population – have emigrated since 2014.

How long Mr Maduro remains in power depends on the loyalty of his cronies.

That and the ability of his security forces to hold off angry mobs.
