In truth, dozens of Democrats are mulling, weighing, considering, wondering about making a run for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination.

 

And yes, for a Massachusetts angle, former Secretary of State John Kerry, former Governor Deval Patrick and Senator Elizabeth Warren all make cameo appearances in this Times article.

When asked, most of the usual suspects offer up less than compelling demurs.

 

For example, they mutter things such as “I’m thinking about it,” and “at this point” and other stock inanities. 

 

On the other hand, Democratic Senator from Hawaii Brian Shartz’s Shermanesque candor was a breath of fresh air.

 

 

A reporter later asked Senator Schatz directly if the percent chance was truly zero or a fraction that rounded to zero.

 

In turn, the senator responded: “Absolute zero.”
