Quincy Quarry Weekly Fish Wrap: Post Elections Pistols at Dawn?

The 2018 elections have been a long as well as bitter fight and which are now about to transmogrify into a new phase of all but assuredly even more virulent acrimony, if not also occasional bouts of outright violence.

While on the national level Democrats narrowly retook control of the United States House of Representatives, Republicans look to be increasing their majority in the Senate by three and thus yielding a considerable 54 to 46 majority.

In short, Democrats barely hit the consensus minimum expectations for gains in the House as opposed to inflicting a much hyped Blue Wave whereas the GOP hit multiple long shots out of the park in Senate races.

In other words, per historical trends for midterm elections, the overall outcomes are bordering on a draw.

Granted, recounts are pending or threatened in the gubernatorial races in Florida and Georgia as well as the Senate race in Florida by the Democrats who appear to have lost those races; however, the touts on the Quincy Quarry political and sports betting desk do not see any recount overturns happening unless a whole lot of uncounted ballots are found abandoned in landfills.

On the other hand, locally there was no excitement whatsoever as the Democratic incumbents were either running unopposed or facing wingnuts who went down with barely a whimper.

On the state level, however, the gubernatorial and US Senate races proved interesting – at least they did for election wonks.

Specifically, and as has been covered in greater detail by Quincy Quarry in its post election recap coverage, Republican Governor Charlie Baker won reelection by a margin of two to one over his even more boring Democratic opponent Jay Gonzalez in what is widely viewed as the bluest state in the country.

In fact, both pre-election and exit polling data indicate that Baker all but assuredly received more votes from registered Democrats than did his Democratic opponent.

Further intriguing is that Baker’s winning margin was close to 60% greater then progressive Democratic US Senator Elizabeth Warren’s wining margin.

Moreover, pre and post election polling data clearly indicate that while Massachusetts registered Democrats are generally pleased with her performance in the Senate, they conversely do not want her to run for president in 2020.

Not that such is likely to stop her even if Quincy Quarry has arguably been the first news media to yet again presciently sound a clarion call which in this latest sage call by the Quarry is that her presidential aspirations are all but doomed to failure.
