Midterm Elections Scorecard.

While many of the Democrat persuasion are ecstatic over their party’s relatively narrow retaking control of the United States House of Representatives and nice gains in their still minority status among Governorships, the Republicans appear likely to be adding as many as three seats in the United States Senate to their narrow pre-election majority.

In  short, all things considered as regards a Blue Wave washing over President Trump, things have instead ended up leaning more towards a near push as regards merely hitting the usual historical marks for midterm elections.

Even so, the 2018 midterms were full of all manner of first-time winners as well as a modest number of individuals who were big winners.

Of particular interest for probably most Quincy Quarry readers is how Republican Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker thumped his Democratic opponent by two to one in arguably the bluest state in the country.

How bad was the beating?

Baker won in every county in the state, including Suffolk County and which is also the City of Boston.

Conversely, Democratic Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren only managed a three to two margin over her two opponents.

In other words for those whom mathematics might as well be a foreign language, Senator Warren enjoyed a roughly only 21% combined margin of victory over her two opponents as opposed to Governor Baker’s 33% tsunami of a victory.

Moreover, various pre-election polling and exit polling data indicate that not only did a majority of Warren voters not want to see her pursue her widely anticipated run for president in 2020, Republican Baker received more election day support for his reelection as Governor of the Commonwealth from registered Democrats than did his Democratic opponent.

As such, Quincy Quarry is going to make the arguably first official bold call that Senator Elizabeth Warren will not be the Democratic nominee for president in 2020.

Conversely, it is too early to offer any comment on Governor Baker’s future other than that he is set another four years in the Corner Office.
