Quincy Center MBTA station demo protection enhanced or a preview of its future?

While straphangers continue to face all manner of travails given the ongoing demolition of the long closed Quincy Center MBTA parking garage – including suffering bus shuttles at night and on weekends – and abutters continue to suffer late night demolition work noise and chock on jackhammered concrete, efforts at affecting public safety continue.

So what, however, for the shantytown look.

Quincy Quarry considered reaching out to the MBTA for word of its plans to effect a full makeover of the Quincy Center station; however, it did not bother as the T is on already on record as saying that it will not be providing any more funding for any further station renovation work on the Braintree Red Line than that which has already been announced and which does not include a new station for A New Quincy Center.

Fortunately, Quincy’s Mayor Thomas P. Koch has promised the MBTA that he will source $15 million in funding for redoing it Quincy Center Station.

Unfortunately, a complete station makeover is projected to run well into the upper 8 figure range – if not approach nine figures – even though there are no plans to replace the commuter parking capacity lost when the MBTA’s Quincy Center garage was condemned and closed over six years ago.

Even more worrisome for local taxpayers, Mayor Koch has yet to detail where and how he expects to scare up fifteen large.
