Fat Bear Week: Alaskan bears “compete” for fat fame ahead of hibernation months. 

 

Today is the Fat Tuesday final for the Katmai National Park & Preserve Fat Bear Week competition.

Let’s just say that one has to do what one can to create some excitement at this remote national park. 

 

Complete with a March Madness-style bracket, the general public is encouraged to safely monitor the contenders via bear cams and vote for their favorites.

 

The competition has been fierce this year. 

 

Two-time winner and reigning champion Otis was knocked out in the semifinals by Beadnose and who is now facing off against a widebody aptly named 747.
