Massachusetts state legislature seeks to shore up public school civics education.

A bill recently passed by the legislature would enhance the state’s public schools civics curriculum as well as require public school students to complete a civics project.

The bill is now headed to Governor Charlie Baker’s desk for his expected signature and thus final approval approval of the legislation.

At the same time, those who might think that the legislature has lost its collective mind by seeking to improve the civic education of future voters among a longer pool of long abused by the legislature voters should not be concerned.

This pending curriculum addition would not be a graduation requirement for public school students.
