MassDOT says it will be auditing the state police twice a year in wake of overtime scandal.

Under an agreement entered into by MassDOT and the State Police in 2010, MassDOT agreed to fund overtime patrols and it was in turn empowered to audit any reimbursements it sent to the State Police.

MassDOT never exercised its right to audit the tens of millions of dollars in funding it provided to the State Police, however.

Going forward, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (“MassDOT”) says it now plans to audit its payments to the State Police twice a year in the wake of an overtime abuse scandal that has rocked the law enforcement agency.

MassDOT also plans to hire an outside consultant.

The consultant will “develop a new process for review, approval, payment of services provided by the Massachusetts State Police,” according to a presentation to the MassDOT  and “… (t)he services are expected to begin in July, 2018 and to be completed not later than December 30, 2018.”
