National Grid lockout sparks union worker protests in Quincy and elsewhere.
National Grid locked out 1,100 gas workers across the state on Monday after contract negotiations failed to reach an accord.
In turn, Quincy Quarry personnel out on the increasingly mean streets of Quincy yesterday happened upon an ad hoc gas union workers protest at the scene of National Grid workers apparently working on electric lines in the Quincy Point neighborhood.
Quincy police officers responded to the scene and did what they could to keep a boisterous scrum of at least several dozen or so gas workers heckling the apparent electrical workers somewhat separated from each other.
Fortunately, the electrical workers appear to have finished their work and then left the scene and the crowd of protesters then broke up before anyone’s nose was broken.
