Former First Lady Laura Bush calls Trump’s immigration policy ‘cruel’

The former first lady says the policy of separating immigrant parents and children along the nation’s southern border is cruel, immoral and breaks her heart.

Writing in a guest column for The Washington Post published on Fathers Day, Mrs. Bush compared the policy to the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II.

She said it was “eerily reminiscent of the Japanese American internment camps of World War II,” (and which she said are) “now considered to have been one of the most shameful episodes in United States’ history.”

“I appreciate the need to enforce and protect our international boundaries, but this zero-tolerance policy is cruel.”

“The U.S. government should not be in the business of warehousing children in converted box stores or making plans to place them in tent cities in the desert outside of El Paso.”

No word yet from current First Lady Melania Trump over this show of support from former First Lady Laura Bush.

In the meanwhile, however, one can only properly assume that the irrepressible and now immortal spirit of former First Lady Barbara Bush is pleased with both of these women’s recent public announcements.
