Locals long trashed the trash collector

Quincy finally trashes its trash collector after five years of complaints.
Earlier this year, Sunrise Scavenger – the trash company – was sold to a private equity firm and which Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch’s spokesmodel Pinocchio Walkbacker said violates the terms of the city’s Sunrise Scavenger’s agreement with the city.

A Quincy Quarry file photoQuincy has rehired Capital Waste, the company that previously hauled the city’s solid waste with few issues.
Capital Waste will take over trash collection effective July 1.
And as only to be expected, this good news comes with bad news: its services will come at a higher price tag for taxpayers.
The city’s solid waste disposal costs will jump $554,000 in the coming fiscal year and so increase the average property tax bill for a local homeowner by roughly sixteen dollars.
Ironically, the City Council was wrapping up its review of the mayor’s proposed budget Wednesday night.
Does the already overburdened Quincy taxpayer really care if the city’s recycle company was sold to a private equity firm? Most of us are still scratching our heads over Weston & Sampson, Brewster Ambulance and the stranglehold the city has allowed Comcast to have over all city residents.

Quincy Quarry detects an odor emanating from this latest curious pronouncement from City Hall and is thus monitoring matters as regards currently three suspected scenarios.
No head scratching is necessary, however, as regards Weston and Sampson and Brewster as we both know what’s business as usual in the Q.
Comcast, however, is a different story. Verizon has determined that Quincy is not a viable market for it undertaking the considerable expense of bringing FIOS service to the Q even before any consideration of City Hall’s ask.
Fortunately, DirectTV provides some relief as regards television viewing.
Plus, by far the bigger problem with Comcast is its going along with the de facto takeover of QATV by Koch Omnivision.

“Complaints about slow service and missed pickups began piling up almost immediately after Quincy hired Sunrise Scavenger in 2013, BUT THAT’S NOT WHY THE CITY FIRED THE BOSTON WASTE HAULER (my capitalization for emphasis) city spokesman Chris Walker said.
Earlier this year, the company was sold to a private equity firm, which Walker said violates the terms of Sunrise Scavenger’s agreement with the town.”
So, according to the city’s official mouthpiece, a contractor’s performance wasn’t a priority for the C of Q — never mind the missed or late pickups, but heaven forbid there’s a contractual issue.
I’m tempted to say ‘you get what you pay for’ but that wouldn’t be quite accurate. In the Q, beleaguered taxpayers — particularly home owners — seldom get what they pay for. But what they DO get is more and higher taxes! Apparently this relentless upward tax spiral entitles them … to be forced to pay even (and ever) higher taxes.

Don’t forget Quincy’s rat problems both all over town as well as inside of City Hall!!!
Yes — $280,000 a year for pest control and it doesn’t seem that the infestation at City hall is missing a beat.
Nor a meal at the public trough either …
