Stepping up to cover for Governor Baker ducking Vice President Pence’s visiting Boston or just pandering?

While much has been made of Governor Charlie Baker not attending Vice President Mike Pence’s Republican National Committee big-ticket fundraiser in Boston today, Governor Baker told pestering reporters to not read too much into his absence at the event.

Said Governor Baker, “I’m not sending a message.  I’m just not going to be there because my calendar has other stuff on it, which is important.”

Governor Baker was already scheduled to appear at a joint meeting of the SouthCoast and Bristol County chambers of commerce tonight.

In the Governor’s stead, his little buddy covered the tarmac greeting and meeting of Vice President Mike Pence when he arrived at Logan Airport today.

No word, however, if the sartorially-obsessed Vice President shared fashion tips with the similarly obsessed mayor.
