Thief takes joyride from Quincy to Medford in stolen street sweeper.

In what many listening in on police radios and police scanners surely thought was an April Fool’s Day goof, Quincy police sent out a be-on-the-lookout (“BOLO”) announcement shortly before noon on Sunday for a stolen Ford F350-based commercial street sweeper that was last seen heading north on Interstate 93 (a.k.a., the Central Artery).

A state trooper caught up with the street sweeper in Medford a short time later, only to have to swerve out of the way when the sweeper thief drove at the trooper’s cruiser and thus the trucknapper was able to make an escape.

The truck was later located stationary as well as unoccupied miles away on Exchange Street in Medford.

Per a state police spokesperson, troopers and Medford Police set up a perimeter, but were unable to snare the suspect.

The street sweeper was subsequently towed to a State Police facility to be processed for potential evidence.

At last report, state police as well as police in Quincy and Medford are still investigating.
