Former State Representative John George pleads guilty to concealing millions in cash.

Federal authorities continue to drain the swamp of corrupt public officials south of Boston.

John George Jr, a former Dartmouth Select Board member as well as former Massachusetts State Representative, pleaded guilty yesterday to concealing over $2.5 million in the wake of his conviction in 2015 for embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars from the Southeastern Regional Transit Authority.

During the course of his facing prosecution in 2015, George was required to disclose his financial status to the court and formally stated on the record that he only possessed approximately $28,000 in cash.

Federal authorities, however, subsequently discovered eight safety deposit boxes containing over $2.5 million in cash, four Rolex watches, one Omega watch, a diamond ring and other jewelry.

Put another way, while cash normally leaves no trail, a wicked lot of cash is hard to hide.

Given his conviction for embezzlement in 2015, George was sentenced to serve seventy months in federal prison and now will be facing additional time when he faces sentencing in June on one count of obstruction of justice for hiding millions in cash.
