Democratic National Committee is “dead broke”
As Democrats prepare to go to war to endeavor to retake control of Congress, such may be difficult because the Democratic National Committee (“DNC”) is all but flat broke.
In FEC filings closing out 2017, the party appears to be starting the new year $6.1 million dollars in debt, with just $6.5 million in the bank.
In turn, such leaves the DNC with just $400,000 in free cash.
Meanwhile, the Republican National Committee (“RNC”) has conversely amassed a substantial fortune.
The RNC’s filings show zero debt with nearly $40 million in the bank.
Even more impressive, the RNC raised a record $132 million dollars in 2017, the most ever in a non-election year.
Democrats raised only about half that ($66 million), but they say it was more money raised than in previous years.
The lag in fundraising comes despite historic low approval ratings for President Donald Trump.
That and in the wake of the recent #metoo resignation of now former RNC Finance Committee Chair as well as subsequently also retired former casino mogul Steve Wynn.
And as for perhaps a further bit of potentially good news for Democrats: according to NBC, nearly fifty non-incumbent Democrats running for Congress have outraised their Republican opponents as they all head into the upcoming midterm elections.
Particulars on by how much, however, could not be gathered in time to meet Quincy Quarry’s publication deadline.
