Quincy Quarry Weekly Fish Wrap: Embarrassing Accidents suffered by City of Quincy rides!

After two weeks of relative quietude in the Q, a couple of widely covered Breaking Badly Bad News© news incidents hit the fan for the City of Quincy.

Then again, one could only reasonably view both as overdue.

Way overdue.

First up, shortly before midnight this past Sunday, a Quincy Fire Department fire truck while out on a burst water pipe call sank into a sinkhole caused by leaking water.

Why fire department personnel were responding to something that would appear to be a Public Works Department matter has yet to be explained, however.

In any event, as well as needless to say, all manner of local news media pounced on the opportunity to cover a fire truck taken out by sinkhole full of water as opposed to the usual media fodder filler coverage of usually as well as also fortunately but middling fire incidents.

And then for a follow-up second atypical news story, a Quincy Police Department cruiser burst into flames at police headquarters Monday afternoon and so causing considerable disruption in and around a busy part of the Q.

Media coverage for this police fire was considerable, including aerial video as well as a squadron of newscopters flying overhead and thus braving the risk of exploding ammunition possibly still in the burning cruiser.

As for scoring which of these two events was more embarrassing for these two often competitive groups of local first responders, the Quarry is tentatively going with firefighters driving into a sinkhole as the winner care of its being a sin of commission as opposed to what appears to have just been a case of an old Quincy Police Department reserve police cruiser bursting into flames.

Unless, that is, it is later found out that the fire was caused by a smoldering cigarette as Quincy police officers are (supposedly, ed.) proscribed from smoking.

In any event – as well as for the trifecta, a bit later on Monday night Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch delivered the annual State of the City address.

Fortunately for the mayor, so as to not further panic long-suffering locals, his presentation did not address any of the many problems facing the Q and of which many have arisen during his term in office and thus the speech was a wicked snooze.

Then again, actually addressing real problems is not Mayor Koch’s modus operendi.

Angry locals

Needless to say, it is also only fair to note that his choice of venue at the main library was both about the smallest and most easily secured municipal venue in the Q to protect against possible slings and arrows flung his way by long-suffering and thus understandably angry locals.

Yet again: only in the Q …
