A major change is coming to your Facebook news feed as the social media giant seeks to diminish its role as an arbiter of the news people see.

After taking considerable as well as well-deserved criticism for its blithely facilitating all manner of Fake News during the 2016 Presidential campaign as well as both before and since, Facebook has fumbled the ball in its response.

Knowledgeable people agree

Rather than acknowledging that it is a news media of a sort and then endeavoring to properly vet purported news posted on it, Facebook has instead opted to take the lazy way out by having its users rate the credibility of news sources for news posted on Facebook.

So what, apparently, for the fact that uncritical personal opinion absent proper vetting is part and parcel to the rampant promulgating of fake, if not also potentially dangerous, news in recent years.

That and how George Orwell is thus surely spinning in his grave over it all.
