Quincy digs out from a bombogensis blizzard bombing.

Yesterday’s blizzard came and then fortunately went after dropping just short of fourteen inches of snow on Quincy.

Fortunately, temperatures stayed low during the storm and thus the snow that fell was of the light, fluffy and thus easy to shovel sort.

At least so long as it wasn’t blowing about in the wind.

Not fortunate, however, was that near record setting Super Moon lunar high tides hit at the height of the storm and thus gave rise to flooding in both many of the usual trouble spots as well as few unexpected ones.

Even so, all in all, things could have been worse – if not much worse.

For example, the MBTA managed to stay in operation throughout the course of the storm with only slightly worse than average service delays on a regular day.

Still, strap hangers are facing some inconvenience today.

Snow piles piled up high by snow plows notwithstanding, at least the middle of most roads were well-plowed even if not also plowed curb to curb.

And where snow plows piled snow high onto sidewalks, at least one local resident came up with an inspired solution: clearing a path through the snow across her or his lawn and thus closer to his or her building.

What is still concerning, however, is that the Q is now facing both high winds as well as a return to overnight temperatures below – if not well below – zero and thus the snow now on the ground is expected to both freeze to all but as hard as concrete as well as stick around for awhile.

As such, with the Wollaston Red Line station slated to close for (at least, ed.) twenty months this coming Monday, one can only expect that local traffic as well as commuting to work will continue to be trying.

In the meanwhile, as well as again, it is only fair to note that many local streets were reasonably well-cleared even if Quincy Quarry did receive reports of snowplows plowing snow back over storm drains and so clogging them after nearby residents had cleared these drains while storm surge was surging onto the streets and so threatening nearby homes with flooding.
