Pragmatic Case Against Punching Nazis.

 

“Punch Nazis” may be a satisfying catchphrase, but über liberals should think through what it would mean to fully embrace it.

 

For example, the lesson of the New Testament admonition to turn the other check.

 

That and letting a fool speak and so remove all doubt.

 

Granted, there is whole body of history on fighting Nazis.

The history of World War II, for example.

 

And before that war started, there was the 1936 Battle of Cable Street in London and which occurred when British Nazi sympathizers endeavored to march through a predominately Jewish neighborhood.  

 

The Jewish residents, however– and who were backed by Irish immigrants and others, successfully knocked back these Nazi thugs, but at a considerable cost that followed.

 

Jews also participated in the Warsaw Uprising against Nazi occupiers of Poland in 1944 as the Soviet Army ground its way west on the Eastern Front.

At least those Jews still alive in Warsaw following the bloody Warsaw Ghetto Uprising in 1943. 

 

Unfortunately for Warsaw, the Red Army paused its advance and so let the German Army crush Polish nationalist opposition. 

 

That and variously thwarted efforts by the Western Allies to provide support to the brave Polish freedom fighters.

As such, anyone who cares to assert a morale equivalency so as to then be allowed to act with impunity against the mostly puny and ultimately pathetic right wing wingnut extremist protests in United States at this point in time with the actions of real Nazis in another time is no better than these wingnut extremists.

 

Further, such a dark misbelief among primarily the extreme left only helps to perpetuate the actions of the right wing extremists which would otherwise wither away as the far greater number of good people in the middle shun them.
