All lanes of Pike reopened today in time for the Monday morning commute.

 

Mass Pike lanes closed to facilitate the still ongoing replacement Commonwealth Avenue bridge were reopened this morning weeks ahead of schedule. 

 

The construction work that required closing two lanes of traffic in both directions in recent weeks was completed in roughly half the time originally projected.

Needless to say, commuters rejoiced even if lanes of the Pike will be closed again next summer as the still ongoing Commonwealth Avenue bridge replacement project is completed next year.

 

That and surely at least some Quincy residents were gobsmacked over the news of this unexpected as well as extraordinarily rapid project phase completion by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.

 

After all, major local road construction projects typically tend to take upwards of twice as long to complete.
