The Gong Show to be rebooted on ABC TV.

In a likely desperate attempt to break its long ongoing virtual tie for third among the major broadcast TV networks, ABC TV is premiering its reboot of the beloved and zany show The Gong Show this coming Thursday at 10 pm, 9 pm Central Time.

How desperate?  See show producer Will Arnett pimp the show while guest hosting on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live late night show and featuring a “guest” appearance of The (New, ed) Gong show’s new host.

In short, Quincy Quarry is not a fan of the plan to reboot The Gong Show.

Neither, it would appear, are its media brethren at The Washington Post.

“ABC, which has a lazy habit of exhuming old game shows, brings “The Gong Show” back Thursday night essentially unaltered — it’s a dank and shticky amateur talent show with the admittedly clever stunt-casting of actor Mike Myers as host Tommy Maitland, a past-his-prime British comedian who speaks only in double “en-tawdries” …”

Adding insult to inexcusable injury, not only is Chuck Barris, the original iconic host and creator of the original Gong Show, only recently deceased and thus now cold in the ground, reprising the original Gong Show is further fraught with peril.

Problems include that this Will Arnett-produced show is featuring fellow Canadian Mike Myers in (really bad, ed.) prosthetic make-up as the fictional British comedian Tommy Maitland.

Quincy Quarry loves Benny Hill and Monty Python as much as do most fans of British comedy.

The Quarry is also a great fan of Myer’s characters Fat Bastard and Dr. Evil; however, a Canadian playing a Brit hosting an American kitsch as well as camp classic is a plan fraught with peril in what in Hollywood is known as a High-concept vehicle.

And as Exhibit A, the box office bomb that was the recent attempt to reboot the original Ghostbusters with an all-female crew of ghost busters.

Not even the very talented comic force of nature extraordinaire Melissa McCarthy was able to make that turkey fly.

In fact, the only ones who made out on that flop were those who cashed in on the wicked generous tax credits provided by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for filming (most of, ed.) this financial fiasco in the Commonwealth.
