Boston also is exploring the development of digitized parking signs so that drivers will see only what are the current, real time parking rules and thus eliminate using confusion as an excuse to endeavor when trying to fight a parking ticket.

Readers should also note that the City of Boston has long pioneered new technology for better managing parking, including debit card parking meters, variable parking meter rates depending on the time of day and even demand sensitive parking meter pricing in the Seaport District.

Looking for parking?

A key motivation for these efforts is that a considerable percentage of urban traffic consists of vehicles driving about while their driver is looking for a parking space.

As such, helping drivers to find (legal, ed.) parking spaces as well as charging for parking at prices that encourage a healthy turnover of parked cars helps reduce traffic as well as saves drivers time, fuel, and wear and tear on their rides even if it might cost them a bit more money to park.
