Trifecta winner …

Achieving the Masshole parking trifecta on Mass Ave.

Just when most of us thought we had seen it all when it came to parking abuse, local food critic Drew Starr could only stare in amazement at a parking job on Massachusetts Avenue the other day near the Christian Science Center: too far from the curb, in a handicap space and with “a crushed bike lane marker underneath.”

While quite a trifecta, this Quincy Quarry reporter some twenty years ago witnessed a parking abuser hit for the cycle one afternoon in San Francisco: a self-important jerk driving a Bimmer convertible parked at literally one of the points of a busy neighborhood intersection and so parking where parking is not allowed, also overlapping into both a buses-only bus loading zone and a crosswalk as well as further so blocking a handicapped curb cut ramp.

A parking control officer just happened by and gave this scofflaw a parking ticket and so citing him for all four violations which even twenty years ago totaled up to close to a $500 fine.

Standers-by applauded the parking officer – and which was probably the one and only standing ovation of her career.

Even better, however, was how everyone then had a good laugh when the parking schmuck came back with a latte – which apparently was the sole reason for his illegally parking – and saw what all he had expensively cited for on the parking ticket.

And as for parking abuse in the Q, the ever growing legions of loyal Quincy Quarry readers well-know that some of the worst local parking abuse offenders “work” in Quincy City Hall or otherwise collect a city paycheck.
