– News about Quincy from Quincy Quarry News

Quincy ducks storm as the storm veers out to sea.

Quincy got lucky – for a change.

The second front that was part of the two part weekend storm shifted its path easterly at the last moment as it was approaching Eastern Massachusetts and so spared Quincy from the expected near gale force winds and a middling snowfall Sunday night.

Instead, the overnight winds were but modest and the snowfall only a couple inches or so of light fluff.

As such, the Quincy Quarry morning news crew found Quincy streets and sidewalks generally in passable condition.

While some side streets were in but cleared to moderate width, the sidewalks in front of City Hall were fully cleared, if not also cleared wider than at least some local side streets.

Elsewhere, however, the city sidewalks along the library were in white out and dangerous condition.

Accordingly, with an abundance of caution, local schools remained closed today for third snow day in a row.

At the same time, the City Hall VIP parking lot was well cleared, but still not quite fully so down to the pavement given a low salt diet regimen that has apparently been imposed upon it recently.

Elsewhere, however, the city sidewalks along the library were in white out and dangerous condition.

Similarly, the new aqua blue snow melting material used in and around City Hall is clearly not as effective as regular salt even if the new blue snow melting material is surely more to much more expensive.

On the other hand, at least the blue melting mix does not appear to wreak havoc on the new concrete sidewalks in Quincy Center care of the Hancock Street Misalignment project, unlike what salt appears to have done to the somewhat new concrete at Quincy High School, near new concrete at Central Middle School as well as elsewhere on local municipal concrete.

Regardless, expect Quincy Quarry to continue to cover the news of the Q through rain, snow, sleet or even summer heat.
