Quincy hunkering down for first major snowstorm of this winter season.
So too, rumor has it, is the MBTA.
What is known is that local public schools are closed, a number of those who can work remotely at home are doing so, and local supermarkets’ shelves have been thinned by frantic shoppers fearful of a snowmaggedon.
That and Quincy Quarry is prepared to cover the storm as only it has the snow balls to do.
Mush! Slush? Whatever …

As the Quincy Quarry news copter has been grounded given the weather, the Quarry is going old school and letting the dogs out to cover breaking events in the Q.
Accordingly, stay tuned for breaking news, especially as regards what Quincy City Hall is doing to cope with this forecasted nor’easter.
In the meanwhile, it would clearly appear that many have headed Governor Charlie Baker’s admonition to stay at home and shelter in place if possible.

For last week’s relatively minor (as predicted) snow event, the city was slathering brine all over the roads. Again, that storm was not predicted nor expected to be a major problem in our area. Tomorrow’s storm, however, is a different story — the terms ‘severe’, ‘warning’, ‘blizzard’ are being used almost constantly in weather reports. But thus far — as of Monday evening — it appears that not a drop of brine has been applied anywhere.
Is this lack of brining a “judgement call”, an oversight, or does it just indicate that the city really has no standard plan or strategy for clearing the roads in the Q.
But here’s a good talking point for the city, maybe they can present it as an alternative fact. They can say: ‘The residual salt, still on the roadways from the LAST storm, will act as an effective agent to prevent icing during this storm.’
Sound reasonable? No.

Also, QQ readers are reported poor plowing in the Q and commuters are reporting better to much better road clearing. Update:
So, in preparation for the predicted minor snowfall for Saturday into Sunday (3/18 – 3/19) the brine wagons have been out brining SOME streets and for the most part ignoring others. Once again, no identifiable rationale — any logical approach seems non-existent.
Dom, no offense to you, but does it really come as any surprise that no apparent logic appears to be the case with ANYTHING involving the Koch Maladministration?
After all as well as for but one example from among innumerable, the City did not do much – if any – brining of local streets BEFORE Winter Storm Stella blew into town earlier this week.
Then again, perhaps the National Weather Service provides the Koch Maladministration with the straight skinny – at least far as the weather is expected to go as opposed to dieting recommendations.
