– News about Quincy from Quincy Quarry News

Quincy’s municipally-owned crèche is still in place after Epiphany at City Hall.

Apparently, City Hall does not appreciate the fact that the day of Epiphany is considered by those duly religious when Christmas displays such as a crèche should be put away until the next Christmas season.

Either that or City Hall is endeavoring religious sensitivity towards Orthodox Christians who do not celebrate Epiphany for another ten days.

Regardless, what City Hall is not doing is showing any sensitivity towards local Jewish residents as it failed to set up a menorah in front of City Hall as it had done in years past.

That and never does anyone recall the city putting out anything to celebrate Kwanzaa.

In turn, City Hall’s failure to honor both Hanukah or Kwanzaa presents a serious legal problem.

Simply put, all manner of federal court cases have decided on constitutional grounds that either all faiths are included in any religious displays on public property or none are allowed.

What would the Rabbi from Bethlehem think?

In turn, Quincy Quarry not only agrees with the courts, its core staff – all of whom are active parishioners – are offended by City Hall’s failure to only properly exhibit ecumenical diversity.

Either that or instead take a pass on displaying anything on city property other than such secular things as Santa Claus or faux snow people.

After all, either we all engage in good and respectful fellowship towards all during this time of year or we cannot be seen as doing so year around.
