Mayfly Swarm Causes Traffic Nightmares on Illinois Bridge.

Mayflies numbering surely in the millions have taken over a bridge in central Illinois, creating a traffic nightmare for commuters trying to make their way across the city.

The Havana Police Department warned drivers of a massive mayfly swarm on its Facebook page Monday morning as well as posted photos of both a bridge over the Illinois River and a police cruiser covered with mayflies.

And as for a public services addendum, even Quincy Quarry readers who are not also insectophiacs should still note that not only are fears about massive flying insect swarms understandable in general, there are even official emergency response recommendations on how to survive a mayfly swarm.
